(Updated: 3/8/21: See below for winners, just announced!) 2020 is a year like no other, but there were still quite a few films worthy of seeking out. Although it was delayed from its usual December time frame, today the Detroit Film Critics Society - the premiere group of professional film critics in and around the Detroit, Michigan area - announced their official nominees across 13 categories. Keep reading to find out what films and performances were nominated! The DFCS normally awards films at the end of each calendar year, and only films that had a qualifying theatrical run. With the pandemic, the theatrical rule was relaxed so that streaming films also can be considered, and in line with some of the major awards groups like the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, SAG Awards and The Academy Awards, the Detroit Film Critics Society has extended its release eligibility window...any film released from 1/1/2020 until 2/28/2021 was eligible.
The winners in each category will be announced via Live-Tweet on the official Detroit Film Critics Society Twitter on Monday, March 8th, and they will be dedicated to former DFCS member and critic, Corey Hall, who passed away in 2020.
