Review: 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (spoiler-free)

As I've grown accustomed to with Spider-Man movies, I have been given strict instructions to give a review of a movie without giving ANY sort of spoilers whatsoever. So what CAN I say about "Spider-Man: Brand New Day"? Read on.

Grade: B+

• "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is the fourth stand-alone Spider-Man movie featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. It's his best performance in the role to date.
• "Brand New Day" also feels like the darkest, perhaps the deepest chapter yet. And still, it also feels more like a Spider-Man story than many of the other previous installments.
• There are twists - including some big ones that will surely play out in future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies - but again, no spoilers here.
• This is a character-over-plot adventure, that does not undercut the emotional weight or sacrifices made in the previous installments.
• At 145 minutes, this chapter does feel unnecessarily long and stretched out at times.
• Jon Bernthal's The Punisher (who can be seen in the Trailer - no spoiler here) mostly steals the show, and the banter between he and Spider-Man was faithful to their relationship on the comic book page.
• The Tom Holland Spider-Man films have all been great, and with the focus on character, there is a confidence and a real feel that they have a story to tell...this is not a money grab or a "sequel-for-sequel's sake."
• Go see it for yourself...it is the most anticipated film of the Summer and is sure to break several box office records.
