What's there to say about a movie like this? Kids will like it, adults probably won't. Even so, the money it's set to make for Universal will rain in like...well...cats and dogs.

A whole new world? Hardly. The new, completely unnecessary live-action re-make of Disney's animated classic, "Aladdin" should have stayed bottled up.
The latest film from Disneynature, "Penguins" waddles into theaters just in time for Earth Day.
Hard to believe we are almost through the dreaded "dead zone" of movie releases (Jan through March), and that we're only a few weeks away from the next Avengers movie. Yes, Spring has sprung, and with it a whole slew of new movies, led by everybody's favorite flying elephant.
Here are reviews of films opening on Friday, March 29, 2019: Read Tom's full review of this movie at the following link: https://www.axs.com/movie-review-beauty-and-the-beast-faithfully-recreates-the-classic-dis-116163 Read Tom's quick reviews of these movies at the following link: http://www.axs.com/movie-reviews-a-dog-s-purpose-gold-and-resident-evil-the-final-chapter-113698 Rating: 4 out of 5 starsNow that the Atari and Nintendo generation are adults with kids of their own, it only seems appropriate that a film would come along like Wreck-It Ralph. It panders specifically to the 80s and 90s video-gamer but also to the modern-day gamer who wouldn’t know a Galaga from a Zaxxon if it walked up and hit them in their Asteroids. In fact, regardless of age, there is a good chance you will like Wreck-It Ralph. If you happen to have grown up during the video game boom of the 80s (like myself), you may love it.
At the same time, Wreck-It Ralph is a bit misleading. Sure, it features animated characters living in a virtual video game world. But this movie was more like a nostalgic trip into a candy store rather than an arcade. I’ll explain. Rating: 4 out of 5 starsIf you don't know Greg Heffley, his brothers Rodrick and Manny, and his pals Rowley, Fregley, Chirag and Patty by now, then where have you been? Diary of a Wimpy Kid has become one of the most popular young adult series of all time, and this third film in the series is perhaps the most enjoyable thus far.

Run Time: 1 hour 28 minutes, Rated PG Starring (voice talent): Hugh Grant, Imelda Staunton, David Tennant, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Anton Yelchin, Brendan Gleeson Directed by Peter Lord (Chicken Run) and Jeff Newitt (feature film debut) From Aardman Animation - the studio responsible for the Wallace & Gromit series as well as animated films like Arthur Christmas and Flushed Away - comes The Pirates! Band of Misfits, an uninspired misfire that takes every cliche in the book and recycles it one stop-frame-of-animation at a time. The creatively named Pirate Captain (voiced by Hugh Grant) and his band of misfits sail the high seas in search of treasure, but they are largely inept and unsuccessful. That doesn't stop him from wanting to win the upcoming Pirate of the Year Award, even though there are much more able sea captains in the running. When Pirate Captain happens across the soon-to-be-famous Charles Darwin (voiced by David Tennant), Darwin sees an opportunity for both of them to get rich on the wings of Pirate Captain's prized parrot, Polly. 4 out of 5 starsGenre: Animation, Family
Opens locally on Friday, March 2nd, 2012 Run Time: 1 hour, 26 minutes, Rated PG Starring (voices of): Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Betty White Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Kyle Balda (feature film debut) This new film is of course a 3D-animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ 1971 book, The Lorax. Like much of the famed author’s work, The Lorax was imaginative, colorful, and written in the style of his other popular books like The Cat in the Hat, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas! And like much of his work, this book had a deeper political meaning infused underneath the seemingly childish façade. |
